Storing the transliteration bookmarklet

If you know how to create a bookmarklet, bookmarklet this link: [অ Type in Bengali]. NOTE: This is NOT same as clicking on the link.

Done! Now whenever you visit a web-site and want to type in Bengali, click on the bookmarklet you just created. For more information, see the Using the transliteration bookmarklet section.

Storing transliteration bookmarklet on Internet Explorer

Note: Transliteration bookmarklet is supported on Internet Explorer version 6 and above. If you come across font issues, see this Wikipedia article for possible solutions.

Perform the following steps:
  1. Right-click this link: [অ Type in Bengali].
  2. Select "Add to Favorites".

  3. Click "Yes" for the security message shown by Internet Explorer.

  4. Choose "Links" as the directory where the bookmarklet should be created.

  5. Click "Add".

After following the above steps, a bookmark with name [অ Type in Bengali] should appear in the Internet Explorer Links toolbar as follows:

If you do not see the the bookmark, follow these additional steps:
  1. Make sure that the Links toolbar is visible. Right-click on empty space in Internet Explorer toolbar area and confirm that the Links toolbar is checked:

  2. Make sure that the toolbars are unlocked. To unlock toolbar, right-click on empty space in Internet Explorer toolbar area and uncheck the "Lock the Toolbars" option.

  3. Drag the Links toolbar to left side. Your toolbar will now look like:

Storing transliteration bookmarklet on Firefox

Note: Transliteration bookmarklet is supported on Firefox version 3 and above. If you come across font issues, see this Wikipedia article for possible solutions.

Perform the following steps:
  1. Right-click this link: [অ Type in Bengali].
  2. Click on "Bookmark This Link".

If you do not see the the bookmark, follow this additional step:

Make sure that the Bookmarks toolbar is enabled. Right-click on the empty space next to "Help" menu and click on the "Bookmarks Toolbar" option:

  1. Press Ctrl+B so that the Bookmarks toolbar is always visible.

Using the transliteration bookmarklet

To type in Bengali on any web-site, follow these simple steps:
  1. Click on the [অ Type in Bengali] button in Bookmarks toolbar. Wait till the message "Transliteration is enabled ..." is displayed. The message informs us that transliteration is ready to use.
  2. Click on any text box where you want to type in Bengali. You will see a Transliteration enabled icon icon in the text box. Now start typing in English and words will be transliterated to Bengali.
  3. To switch off typing in Bengali (i.e. to type in English), click on the [অ Type in Bengali] button in Bookmarks toolbar again.
